Support for people with dementia, their families and whānau
It would be great if there are more supports for people with dementia, their families in the community. Access to respite would be very much appreciated. Even better if there is a coordinated care system that links primary, secondary and tertiary care. Training for nurses, GPs how to properly diagnose their patients who may have dementia and refer them for more appropriate support.
Why the contribution is important
Families and whānau whose their loved ones living with dementia struggle to support them. They may lose the opportunities to continue their carers or reprioritise their lives because they have to look after their family members with dementia.
